Dorset - Abnormal Load Restrictions - Olympic Games 2012

Posted on Monday, 09 January 2012 10:51AM by DS

Dorset will be hosting the 2012 Olympic Games sailing events in Portland.

Due to an expected and significant rise of visitors to Dorset during the Olympic Games period there will be some restrictions put in place for abnormal load movements throughout Dorset between Thursday 12th July 2012 and Monday 13th August 2012.

There will be no bulk movements of abnormal loads during the dates stated above, and each request for an abnormal load movement will require an individual authorisation and each load will be given a set time and date to move.

Dorset Police have confirmed that there will be little flexibility in the process as they have a considerable task in managing the normal traffic flow, security and continuation of normal business throughout Dorset during the Games.

It is recommend that any abnormal load movement is planned well in advance to ensure there is minimum disruption to the Police Operation throughout this period.

A reminder has been sent from Dorset Police that moving unauthorised abnormal loads is an offence and may lead to prosecution under Construction & Use regulations 1986.  This restriction applies to all abnormal load movements and should be adhered to.
